Question Watching Discord Streams crashes whole network. PC (Ethernet) AND phone (Wi-Fi)

Sooo this one is tricky.

I usually use Teamspeak, but I have been using Discord because of new communities I joined.

For like a couple of months, everytime I watch somebody elses stream on Discord, it causes massive lag. It doesnt matter what quality, we tried 720p 15 fps, same happens on 1080p 60 fps aswell.

In certain moments it even forces my whole Network (DSL via Cable) to completely be disconnected. After restarting the router (Asus) the network works again, but it crashes again, if I start watching streams again.

I can stream myself and everything works fine, it only happens when watching streams.

I have a router by Asus and their Interface is horrible and not user friendly, so i have issues troubleshooting and diagnosing. (And yes I am switching Routers at the end of the month)

What could that be? My guess is, that the router cant handle something about those Discord streams, but I am not a tech expert so its more of a guess than anything else.

Edit: and yes I have been trying to troubleshoot a little, I reset the router, bought new DSL cables, reinstalled Discord, nothing has helped yet.

Noctua NH D-15 for CPU cooling

Specs:

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage.,

Disk drive(s); make, model, capacity, how full?

Crashes:

Look in Reliability History/Monitor and Event Viewer.

Either one or both tools may be capturing some relevant error code, warning, or even an informational event just before or at the time of the crashes.

Router:

Asus router: which model? Age?

DSL or coax?

Depends on how old your asus router is but asus actually has many tools that lets you test your network connection directly from the router.

It would be extremely unusual for any kind of user traffic to crash router. The router has no idea if you are running say discord or youtube or twitch it all looks the same to the router.

When this happens are all devices in your house affected. Does your phone lose internet also or just your pc.

Can you log into the router when this happens. Asus router have a log that should show you if the internet itself went down. Many asus routers have the ability to ping things directly from the router. What happens when you run a ping test to say 8.8.8.8 from the router itself.

My guess would be since you are talking about DSL is there is some fault in the DSL connection that is made worse by traffic. DSL has many more issues than cable or fiber connections. BUT again if this is only discord and not other streaming services it is likely something on your machine. Copper wire has no ability to tell the difference between different web sites.
