What causes wavy lines on a monitor?

Honestly it's probably your graphics card. If you have another computer try hooking your monitor up to that and see if the wavy lines are there. That way we can eliminate the monitor as a problem. Does your computer have integrated graphics or a separate card?

Or you could hook another monitor to the PC.

Try using a DVI cable instead of a D-Sub (VGA).
Also, it is quite helpful if you post system/monitor specs...

For wavy lines, I'd suspect nearby interference or the monitor. A dying graphics card will usually artifact or produce "blocky" effects. As outlw said, the specs would be useful.

Thx guys, both the card and the monitor are quite old. My guess was the graphics card.
