Hello, I am helping a friend build a good gaming rig and have come up with the following parts list. Note we are in Australia and only want to use Mwave AU and PCCASEGEAR to buy the parts. The part list was put together quite quickly and could probably be improved to get better price/performance. Note - not looking to increase the price in anyway (actually trying to reduce it) so please don't suggest more expensive parts that will increase overall cost.

Games don't use hyperthreads so save some $$ by going with a Haswell Intel i5. You don't need an aftermarket CPU cooler, even with K/X CPUs so you could get rid of that. Most CPUs nowadays come with a heatsink already. You only need 8GB RAM unless you're doing video editing/photoshop (oh and you only need 1600mhz DDR3 RAM). You can get a cheaper 120GB SSD (it's around $100) and change the PSU to a Corsair HX650, Seasonic, XFX or EVGA 650W PSU (or 750W if you're XFire'ing or SLI'ing GPUs).

If you need an aftermarket CPU cooler because your CPU doesn't have one then go with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO. They're better than the standard coolers but quite large (you don't need one if your CPU comes with one), I've OC'd my CPU to 4.4GHz...
