Hi I am looking to buy a barebone laptop and I want to install linux on it because its open source, easy to mod, and has less hardware problems. So many programs don't support linux so I was wondering if there is anyway to run non-linux software while it still being hardware efficient without emulation.

Solution
There is WINE, a compatibility layer that allows you to run *some* windows software on Linux. Some things will work better than others.
https://www.winehq.org/

Some games that do not have a linux port yet may work under WINE. Check the WINE AppDB to see how well it is supported:

Really though do you need AutoCad or Photoshop? There are many other CAD software besides AudoCad that support Linux. Likewise there are other Digital photo editing software like GIMP.

I mean software like independent games that aren't on steam, autocad, photoshop.
