WD 2TB My Book wiped.....

I just purch a HP laptop. As per instructions, I plugged in a new, clean flash drive to create a recovery "disk". The recovery was created on the flash, but it duplicated the recovery on my WD 2TB external drive. The data lost can be re-created...but how do I restore my WD 2TB back to original?

There's no easy way to restore it - but you can try https://www.piriform.com/recuva to see if any data remains. Also check your recycle bin.

When you say "back to original" I assume you mean back to how your My Book was when you bought it.

Just reformat it, then download any software that it came with (eg SmartWare) from the WD website:

the data is not the issue.
problem is that the wonderful HP restore process locked my drive down...it is now rendered useless!!
How do I get a new WD 2TB My Book without purch another one??

What error are you getting when you try to format the WD 2TB ext drive?
