Hi

For several days now, my hdd fails to boot up when my pc stays off for several hours (ie during the night) - Initially I was suspecting the motherboard (see this thread of mine http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2581688/problem-z97-anniversary-boot-hours-stays-offline-hours.html), but I just borrowed another hdd and used mine as 2nd and things look ok booting from the new hd. Now, loading the WD Data Life diagnostics, I get an error like

"quick test on drive 2 did not complete Status code =07 (failed read test element). Failure checkpoint = 97 (unknown test)"

Does anyone know what it means ? Also does that mean that I should be replacing the hdd ? It is 1 month old bought from amazon though...

Hey, Alkass!

I'm very sorry to hear about your WD drive! :(
Unfortunately, @popatim is totally right about the bad sectors on the HDD. The best thing to do now is check your warranty and contact our tech support to send out an RMA request for your drive. They should be able to provide you with a replacement.
You can check your warranty here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=2snOSw
WD tech support contacts: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=eoUJHQ
How to RMA your product: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=oF1grD

Hope this helps! Best of luck!

I would examine the SMART report with a tool such as CrystalDiskInfo.

Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

The boot failure is symptomatic of internal problems, possibly weak heads. I would perform a full surface scan with a tool such as HDDScan (Windows) or MHDD (DOS). These tools will identify "slow" sectors whereas DLG will not.
