I'd agree that an AA/AS or BA/BS is rather meaningless these days. There are a few exception fields, but if you want to be certain you'll get a good job you need to go above those levels. I really wish I had figured this out before I spent so much time/money on college.

i'm a fan of these words.
and to add..
some college degrees dont provide all of the details that are needed to really establish yourself.
they dont come until later when you are doing your internship or hired at your first job.
and they are only provided to the people who have previous experience, wisdom, and judgement.

did they fill your master's degree portion with lucrative nonsense that was topic affiliated, but non-important?

i could picture a college using that time to try and build an alternative view towards the degree.. as if to build a side hobby within (well.. actually a bit side-tracked) from the degree.
they can also use it to observe the person's stride and passion about the job field they are learning.
a person that simply melts and lets in all of that information.. depending on the type of melting, it could mean the person is simply in a chair sucking up information and has no real passion about getting out there and doing the job well.

Stay on the farm ... when the world food shortage hits your family is going to be part of the elite.

If you do go to college study an Ag degree and focus on sustainable farming.

Do not sell any of your family farm land doggy ... in fact convince your folks to buy more land around them.

Invest in seeding technology.

@dogman: Likely that no one here knows you well enough to answer that question, so the fall back is general advice. Unless Obama gets another four years, and/or until we run out of credit and OPM (Other People's Money), its likely you'll have to work for a living :)

If so, the *best* career involves doing something you love to do *AND* can do well. At typical college age that can be a difficult thing to know. Sometimes you have to go to college while figuring that out. If so, use the college years to FIND THAT OUT . . . and learn how to be a critical thinker.
