My computer will run fine and then, all of a sudden when I try to open a
program by clicking on my taskbar the whole desktop disappears. Sometimes
it comes right back and other times I have to reboot to get it back. It
does not just do it with 1 program and I never know which one is going to
cause it.
Have Panda Titanium Antivirus and have run ck
Also have, CWShredder, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spyware Blaster & AdAware
6 Pro, all have the latest updates.. Have run check's with all those and
everything is fine. Any suggestions or help appreciated.
Thanking you in advance!

The shell is blowing off for some reason. Next time it happens see if
anything is logged in the events log (start->run->eventvwr.msc) at the time
of crash related to explorer.

If this is the problem where, when opening various programs, folders in Win
Explorer & so on, cause all folders and the Taskbar to disappear from the
desktop and then re-appear several seconds later (often in the process
losing half the links in Systray); it's been debated quite a few times over
the last months, but I have yet to see a valid reason for it - or a fix.
I'd also like to know, as I have the same problem on 2 PCs.
One MS fix has been put up several times, but it relates to one specific
problem which doesn't seem to really quite apply to this one & their
recommendation is not to use it unless you actually have that specific
problem.

What you're seeing is the shell blowing off. Could be for a number of
reason. Is there anything in the event log related to explorer faulting?

1. Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The instruction at
"0x77f57ec4" referenced memory at "0x00000067".
The memory could not be "written".

2. Application popup: Explorer.EXE - Application Error : The exception
unknown software exception (0xc015000f)
occurred in the application at location 0x77f6fca7.

The MS 'not really applicable' fix I referred to is -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329692

Have just been thinking - I can't recall seeing this problem occurring since
installing SP2, but aren't sure.
