Hi folks, hope you're having a good one. So a few weeks ago i bought a new graphics card, an RTX 3060 which was an upgrade from my 1050 ti. Long time ago. before the 1050ti, i had an old radeon hd5000 from a two-bit prebuilt and i played at 720p on this monitor which is a Samsung Syncmaster SA300. From multiple sites it says its either 720p or 1080p without being clear on which but i have been able to make it work at both.

When i bought my 1050 ti after the hd5000, i had it for around a year or so and JUST THEN when fiddling with settings i found out that I had available a new resolution which was 1080p, but not quite, it was 1932x1086 which is the same that i used instead of 720p (I used 1366x768 with the Radeon and for the first year of the 1050ti). So right now i see a pattern where i get weird resolutions which are just SLIGHTLY better, but hey, i'll take it. Now, a year later i have an RTX 3060 and just today when fiddling with display settings i see a new resolution available: 2732x1536.

Thats 2k, right? Or the slightly better version of 1440p, which is just 2k. Now, im curious. Could it be some RTX shenanigans that ALLOWS me to use 2k on a monitor that on every page is described to be either 720p or MAYBE 1080p? Let it be known, i've had this monitor for, at the very least, 10 WHOLE YEARS. Im really confused, do you think you got an idea why this is happening? Im not complaining, in fact, this is great! I play splitscreen games or have to multi manage excel and the photos of my coworkes in whatsapp web and the windows 11 snap layouts help me with that so, more pixels, more content. But still, im really confused why this happens at all! And every time it happens to me, its on these weird resolutions that arent fully 720p, 1080p or 1440p. No, its 768, 1086 and now 1536.
If any of you does actually bother to help me and andswer me instead of a poor guy who has his setup on fire, thank you very much for reading!

If specs are needed, for whatever reason, here you go.

Windows 11 Home 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9400F CPU @ 2.90GHz (6 CPUs), ~2.9GHz

Which specific monitor: S19A300N, S19A300B, S20A300B, S20A300N, S22A300B, S23A300B, S24A300B, or S24A300BL? As the manual indicates:

resolution varies according to size. For most of the largest sizes the maximum resolution is 1920 by 1080 as indicated by page 3-9. As the specifications for the largest models indicate on page 6-15 the optimal maximum resolution is also 1920 by 1080. If you have a different model check the tables. Note that since video is a one to one pixel medium, there is absolutely no benefit to setting your video card to any resolution other than the optimal maximum resolution.

So if there is no real benefit to setting my video card to any resolution other than the maximum resolution, im just playing in stretched 720p? Is that what im getting so far? Since i got rid of the box ages ago, i just had to check from behind the monitor. Its APPARENTLY the S19A300B.

Your video card should be set to produce 1366x768 @ 60 Hz since that is the maximum optimal size for that model. If you use any higher setting your video card is simply generating wasted extra pixels which are then thrown away when they reach the monitor.
