I am looking to buy new external drive,
does anyone know what drive is inside of this external drive?
Western Digital My Book Essential WDBFJK0040HBK-EESN 4TB

I found one video from 2012 about WD external drive that shows Hitachi drive inside, but video don't display the model (at least I didn't see it). I am interested what drive is inside the model I mentioned, if anyone knows?

My guess and this is only a guess since ive torn a few my books apart in the last year is its going to be a WD drive with a custom pcb board on the back of the drive like this one on the left of the picture.

Ive bought 7 my books in the past few years and they aahve all come with WD drives, not sure why WD would buy another HDD to put in there stuff. Any of the new WD external drives now have custom PCB boards on them so you cant remove the drive and put it in a computer.

P.S. from left to right in image: my book, passport, standard drive all WD drives

well just googled WD buy Hitachi and on WD's webpage they did. http://www.wdc.com/en/company/hgst/ so you can get a Hitachi drive in your WD external case.

Yes all 3 drives are 2.5" drives, I only buy WD HDD and Intel SSD's those are the only two companies i buy drives from.

I didnt looked into that because, still it doesnt confirm what is inside this specific model. It could be WD, it could be Hitachi. Hope someone who owns it will answer.
I have bigger respect for Hitachi based on experience, and also accoring to tests that I read, they perform better.

Hey, Acronis!

Actually the hard drives that are placed inside the enclosure of a WD External drive vary. However, it doesn't affect the performance or the data transfer rate of that unit. Keep in mind that dismantling any single-drive external enclosure to find out what the HDD inside is will void the warranty of the product. You can refer to this article from our KB for more details on this: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=qDjEdL

If you have more questions, I strongly recommend getting in touch with our customer support for answers, as they will be able to provide you with further details.

Good luck! Hope this helps! :)

That is not true, it does affect performance and more importantly reliability and durability, as it can be seen from this tests:

I want Hitachi as I already have several Hitachi's and they are reliable and known for good quality, if it is Western Digital inside I will not buy it.

It was not my question about warranty, and I didn't asked for your advice about that. As if I didn't knew that, and as if it is the only way to check what is inside.
