Hi All,

Having played a little WH40k a while back, and playing DoW on pc, i'd like
to read up on the Imperium in particualar the Horus Heresy and the Dark
Angels chapter. Can anyone recommend any books to read that could explain a
few things while being a good read.

Regards

Hmm, GW novels and "good read" don't often go together.

For Dark Angels try "Angels of Darkness" and the 2nd edition codex "Angels
of Death" (the latter covering both Blood Angels and Dark Angels but has
more background on the DAs than the current Codex - although that's not very
hard considering how thin it is :\). Also there's "Deathwing", although note
that it's a collection of short stories the first of which is the story of
why the Deathwing paint their armour bone white.

The Horus Heresy is more problematic though - AFAIK there haven't been any
novels set around that period, you'll need to get your hands on Rogue Trader
and the Realms of Chaos books for much of the background (one of the RoC
books even delves into the origins of the Emperor a little).

I thought it was a story of why the armor was white, as it was shown on
the Deathwing box for Space Hulk. The bone didn't show up till 2nd
edition along with the feathers and such. Suddenly the Terminators were
all Native Americans. Even though the DA recruit from wherever they
happen to be at the time.

I remeber reading some good Heresy stories but I don't know where. I'm
guessing the old epic stuff as I got that before I got Rouge Trader. The
Hourus Heresy Boardgame that Jervis made in the early 90's may have some
good stuff too.

There is going to be a trilogy of novels set in the HH, problem is,
they're not due for another year

I distinctly remember the story being very much influenced by the Native
Americans. White, bone white, same difference.

A Horus Heresy trilogy is being worked on right now though, first book out
sometime next year, I believe.

Yes, That one squad was Native American. I guess they went with bone so
not to confuse them with White Scars.
The story was white paint over the green armor so if they wanted to
be accurate they'd have some green ghosting through. I know, no big
deal. Just a change for no other reason than to change. And the main
reason I made my own chapter. ( My marines went: BA->DA->UM->homemdae
chapter) Of couse the Termie Libraians were Bone back in the day when
Deathwing was white. (Intoduced in the Genestealer Supplement along wiht
platic 'stealers)

Any idea on the titles or ISBNs for those? I can set an scheduled query up
here on the company database server to let me know when we've got details on
them, I've had a dig through the current Nielsens BookData biblio data and
can see nothing other than the existing 3 artwork books on the Heresy, and
at the moment there is no record for any Black Library book past Dec 2005
publication month.

OK, found the ISBN for Vol 1: 184416294X . No data has been released in the
UK yet though, which is probably due to Black Library not releasing it to
Nielsens yet ... we have data on books by other publishers up to Aug 2007!

Hmmmm, BL was always a pain to track through the book trade, it might be
worth checking with Bookpoint who are the BL distributers to see if they
know anything.

For the 'new' version of the Horus Heresy

http://www.sabertoothgames.com/horus/lore_background.asp

All the fluff written before has been 'from a point of view' but this
is as it actually happened, according to GW ip bloke Alan Merrick.

Cheers, I'll give that a go. I spoke to someone there regarding reprints of
books and they gave the impression they also dealt direct with other
distributors (I specifically asked them about THE and the status of a few
books showing as Publisher Out of Stock).
