What’s the quietest 120mm fan with > 70cfm

The S-Flex SFF21F (1,600 RPM) is 63 CFM and fairly quiet

But surely it's quieter to run two quiet, slow fans than one loud, fast fan.

thanks - but 28 is just a little higher then ideal, under 25 would be better... The P182 only has one intake onto the main chamber.

I wouldn't recomend the abovementioned TT 120mm, i have 5 A1926 blue LED fans in my case, and it is very loud at full speed, it is definately not 21dba, more like 35 to 40 dba. Not all manufacturers provide accurate case fan specs, and this is definately one of those cases.Luckily i got a fan controller so i was able to lower the fan's speed and quieted it down. My friend owns 3 Antec Tricool fans they are rated 39/56/78 CFM at 25/28/30 dba and they are quieter than my TTs, those specs are accurate more or less andi'd recomend these fans instead.

LOL.. i have A1926 BLUE LED ones too. It's really silent if there's no blockage directly behind the fan. I put one Fan at the year which i modified the outlet. I used a rotary tool to cut away the mesh that was behind the fan. After i did that, the sound was half as loud. I put the other 120m fan in my 2 empty cdrom bay. It was really quiet. BTW, the 21dBA was measured from ~5 feet away. You can barely hear the fan running at that distance.

Yep, i think that's it, my intake midsection fan has a mesh behind it and that is the lodest fan by far. I also noticed that windowed cases make the fans sound louder, mine is sitting about 2ft away and i can definately hear it, but it's not as bad once the speed goes down to 50-75%. Aside from being loud these are powerful fans and will keep the system cool, so if you gonna get em do as jackluo923 said and cut the mesh out or get the Antecs.

If you are going to use 80mm fans, i would recommend snake brand. LOL I bet you've never heard of that brand. I took out off from a power supply. I can pull 75% of the air as the thermaltake thunderblade 120mm ( over 50cfm) and a lot quieter than the TT one. I think the dBA rating is less than 20dBA @ 2500RPM. I put the fans between my 2 empty PCI slots, and what a surprise, it's actually an exact fit, no screws needed. It lowered my AMD duron 1.3 ghz 10 degrees c.

It may be best to look at this list and decide which ones are in your price range:

I can't make any recommendations off the bat, as some of those fans are exotic and tough to find, and I personally haven't paid too much attention to fans (I'm not too preoccupied with noise).

Correct me if I'm wrong. But here's what i know so far about choose a fan

You should look for the following characteristics from a fan to determine its quietness and airflow.
RPM: the faster the higher the airflow. Lower is usually more efficient. The sweet spot is usually around 75-80% of the rated speed. ( at least that is the case for every fan i've used. )
Bearing Type: ball bearing- try to avoid it if you don't intend the fan to last over 5 years. By the time the fan dies, there will be more efficient, more quiet and more rated airflow fan available in the market for cheaper price
sleeve bearing- most common and popular type for low noise fan
Other types such as hydro, magnetic: try to avoid them if you're restricted by budget. You'll want them if you really want to spend 3-5x the money. Maybe be a little bit better than sleeve bearing. It has very bad price vs performance ratio most of the times.

Blades: 7 blades are common, 9 blades rare, but generally better. Produce less noise because more surface area.

Blade shapes: sharp edges - a little bit more noise ( usually high pitched )
round edges- less noise. Round as in like an airplane's wings.
curved blades edges- usually more efficient and produce less noise
curved blades: more efficient than strait blades
blade angle : most efficient at less than 45 degrees but above 20 degrees
blade surface: perfect smoothness or golf ball surface design has great efficiency and low noise.
Max air pressure: x.xxmm-h20 not sure about this one.
i've read it somewhere where it says the highier the number, the better the ability to suck or push air through cramped space. Also the highier the number usually mean that the dBA rating wouldn't raise up if you have blockage behind or in front of the fan. E.G dust mesh

I hope this will help you choose a fan.

When i was researching fans for my build 2 guys told me that they are kinda loud, loder than they claim, but i guess noise levels are subjective.

I disagree also. I think the Thermaltake Thunderblade 120mm LED fans are definately too loud. They work great and move a TON of air. Keeps my case Temp at an amazing 34c. But it makes way too much noise for my taste.

Try an Artic Cooling 120mm fan. I have heard good things about those fans. They move about 53 cu. feet of air.

seconded.

OP, you're asking for a lot to find a fan with >70cfm and <25 dB; that scythe fan is pretty much the highest performer that is quiet.

I've got two vantec tornados. 🙁

kEEP IN MIND!!!! Alot of manufacturers like to list the MAX cfm's and the MIN dBA'a!!!!

There is no way in hell a 70+ cfm fan can run under 25dBA. The air alone will make more noise than that. Most 70cfm fans are gonna cost you 3dBA noise, if not more. its just a fact of life.
