What am I doing wrong?

I am new to overclocking but have been building my own computers for awhile. I saw the article about the $500 gaming computer

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-graphic-game,1907-2.html

My system is identical except for:

GPU - 8800gt 512mb gddr3
Processor - E2180 2.0ghz

My bios version is F4.

I am trying to overclock to basically what they are doing in the build, leaving the GPU alone and just upping the CPU and Memory. I had it running at 400mhz FSB with a 8x multiplier for 3.2ghz. I set the memory the same way they did running 1:1 to stay at 800. I turned off all the things that stop overclocking, Speedstep, thermal control, CIE. I tried this with the system voltage set at 1.55 and all other voltages left alone. It ran fine for 2 days, then when I did my first restart after the OC it did a funky stop start type of boot and reloaded all default settings. I was monitoring all temps for the 2 days it worked and had no problems there.

I retried all same settings with 333mhz fsb and a 9x multi, when I tried to boot it did the same thing but instead of resetting defaults I just got a black screen.

I retried all the original OC settings with the system memory set to auto, tried this with both 333mhz with a 9x and 400mhz with a 8x and got a blue screen telling me windows didn't load to prevent hardware damage.

I hope I am not leaving any details out, I reverted to optimized default and everything runs fine....I want to OC if I can, feels like a waste not to with this fan and all :)

Maybe I ned to manually set all the voltages, not just system? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did i read that correct? 1.55 volt on the CPU? Would you mind posting what temperatures the cores were running at?

1.55 volt is quite a lot.

They were running in the low 50'sC max. I was under the impression that 1.55v was ok because that is what they used in the build.
