I need help... Again I have decided to stay with AMD and was wondering what the best processor is?


ALSO Would anyone be interested in buying my Phenom II 840 (Never been OC'd)?

Keep your 840, it's better than any of the new AMD processors except the FX-8150, which is way overpriced and a poor performer in games.

I use it for Gaming/Recording .... Then rendering big files.

Also, surely 8 cores is better than 4?

In only a few circumstances. An Intel 4 core will absolutely destroy a AMD 8 core in just about everything, especially gaming. As for games, even an i3 dual core beats out AMD FX in most games.

That's why you don't see any AMD cpu's recommended for gaming.

If your using a low/mid range graphics card, the cpu doesn't matter so much. But if your using a fast graphics card, the cpu matters a lot.

The FX 8120 will OC nearly as well as the 8150 and at $160 its not a bad deal if you use all 8 cores. AT this price its cheaper than the i5 2300, and with a proper OC, it will beat it in games (the 2300 doesnt OC much at all).

Yes yes, the 2500K will be much faster in games, but its $40 more expansive And the 8120 will beat it out in threaded apps.

You can overclock a 8150 to 4.5ghz, it still won't beat a i5-2300 in games. There may be 3 apps out of 25 that a 8120 will beat a 2500K.

You have to clock the 8120 25% higher than a Phenom II to get similar gaming performance!

..... oh and it doesn't have 8 cores they are snoozedozer modules.

It's not that their "snoozedozer", windows just isn't optimized for "snoozedozers" architecture. You should see that addressed with the final release of Win8.

Pointless arguement though we should be seeing PD by then so AMD released a chip 12 months ahead of the OS it needed to run properly...... supposedly we don't even know if win8 will improve it that much. You can't release mainstream hardware that isn't utilised properly then expect the makers of OS to adapt to that 12 month down the line.... whats next, "Piledriver optimised for Windows 9 buy now and wait on MS to make it!"

Well people that recommends intel. If this guy has to stay with AMD then we give him suggestion of AMD processor. Unless he has a huge budget so he can replace his motherboard.

He has both the motherboard and the CPU, thought the Mobo is an 95W AN3 motherboard, though he doesn't have to stay with AMD.

I didn't recommened Intel just just not FX. If your staying with AMD stick with Phenom II it costs less and performs as well/better in most uses.
