I have a pretty good MSI laptop that I purchased two years ago - its got an i7-8750h, a GTX 1070, 16 gb of RAM, but unfortunately only a USB 3.1 Gen 2 type C port.
I was wondering a couple of things - would it be worth it to connect a newer external GPU to my laptop? Could I use an external GPU and my internal one in tandem (similar to SLI), or would the monitor only use the external GPU? Additionally, what eGPU enclosures are generally recommended?

Solution
The other problem is that even if you managed to get SLI working, multi-GPU solutions are absolutely awful in 2020, even in the best of circumstances, which you won't be in using an external GPU.

Why external...?
MSI users can send their laptop back to MSI for a hot new graphics card as the Taiwanese computer maker has offered GPU upgrades for users who want to keep their systems up to date..... if purchased after 2018
btw multiple ports means multiple monitors, but, unless you have the right sli link for the laptop-to-external gpu then no sli will be happening...

This is the first time I've heard about this. Could you provide further info or a link?

For which resolution?
If 1080P and 1440p that GPU+CPU can push it without doubt.
Have you give it an cleaning, repasting, buying an cooling pad?
The biggest con of having laptop is always temperature.
1080p on the laptop monitor but I have an external monitor which is 1080p right now but I plan on upgrading to 1440p at least. Thanks for the temp advice
