I've got a strange problem with my new custom build. I'm wondering if my new motherboard is defective and if I should replace it.
I'm wondering what signs you've seen of a faulty motherboard.
In my case my computer has hard freezes with the keyboard and mouse not responding.
However, when I open the case all the lights and fans are on and when I plug in an external drive the lights come on.
So I'm wondering if that means the motherboard's not the problem, and to rule it out.

i don't think that faulty motherboards could cause freezes. Have you run disk derangement and CCleaner? try using different mouse and computers. if that doesn't work, try re-installing their drivers. is your computer up to date?

No, i mean, try using the cpu on a different motherboard or the motherboard on a different cpu. You don't need to buy one. try to borrow from someone or bring to a repair shop.

This is simply to find out for sure if this is the cause

No repair shop's gonna give me their motherboard or i7 cpu to take home with me, i'd have to buy one. If my problems the CPU or board it'll have to be replaced.

Why don't you ask them to check it for themselves? Or maybe borrow one of your friends? You don't have to get an i7, just something that uses the same socket as your cpu, as you're only testing the motherboard

I'm starting to think it's the motherboard. I have some controller errors in event viewer now, and twice when plugging something in my PC last month the computer shut off. I have sufficient wattage, so something might be off with the board. Gonna do some Asus updates and see if the controller errors go away.
