Upgrading from a 460 1gb card here, all my other specs are up to date, what cards better on new games? I want to play GTAV, Witcher 3, FarCry 4, Watch_Dogs, Shadows Of Mordor, and dying light.

My choices are:

ASUS ROG MARS 760x2 4GB(Its two 760's in SLI, can get for 212 after tax open boxed with full warranty).

MSI Radeon R9 290 4GB(245 after rebate).

EVGA 770 4GB(200 open box, full warranty).

Yeah was hoping the 760 sli would be best but apparently Nvidia is ignoring everything but Maxwell....shame because benchmarks showed it being a bit above a 290X at a time....

I have a EVGA 750 Watt G2, I bought a decent PSU for this build.

The GTX 760 sli is the most powerful of the 3 options but you're going to be left with only 2GB of vRAM per GPU if you go with that option. I recommend no less than 3GB of vRAM these days because games are starting to use a lot of vRAM.

Thats the part I don't understand, like this guys using 2 4gb 760's and he has 8gb of available ram it seems?

In the video there is technically 8GB of vRAM available. Each GPU has 4GB of vRAM in the video so add them together and it makes 8GB. Because of the way SLI works both GPU's need to have access to the same data so the same data is stored on each GPU's vRAM. The GTX 760 sli card has 2 GPU's and each GPU has 2GB of vRAM. So although there is a total of 4GB of vRAM the same data must be stored in both GPU's vRAM and that effectively makes it like you have only 2GB of vRAM.

Damn it should have been built to stack but that was probably not possible, maybe I should wait for a 970 price drop, hate to wait longer...but I am iffy on the 290 to be honest, like I just watched some gameplay vids, Witcher 3/Far Cry 4 seems to be getting better FPS on the 760 SLI while other games seem to perform better on the 290...

If I get the 290, there is a deal I am looking at that comes with 1 stick of PNY XLR8 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 ram, I currently have 2 4gb sticks of Corsair Vengeance 1600 Ram, could I just add it in? My Mobo is Asus Z97.

Hopefully it will STACK on the release of DX12. Let's keep our fingers crossed :)

I just googled, seems thats for HBM memory? :pfff:

we dont know about that yet, since majority of current cards are on gddr5, im not sure why they would make it exclusive for HBM
