Question What components should I get

Hello,

I'm currently shopping and want to build my gaming rig. Thus far I have decided to buy the following components:

- Intel Core i9-9900KS 4 GHz 8-Core Processor

- Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler

- Western Digital Red 6 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive

- Asus GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB ROG Strix Gaming OC Video Card

To clarify that I'm interested in gaming and not streaming or photo editing.
Now, with that said I want a motherboard which fits these components but don't know what to buy.

Since it's intel, it has to be LGA 1151 socket and Z370 or Z390 chipset in case I want to overclock. I'm interested in an ATX size but still I don't know what to buy with the Noctua cooler taking space, so it has to be compatible with it.
I have less care about appearances and RGB lighting, but more importantly functionality and performance.

I plan also to put a 32 GB RAM (2 x 16) but not set on type yet.
A full tower case is also in mind but still didn't do the research on that

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated as I'm a bit stuck

Automatically pigeonholes you to 280/360mm or custom loop if you want to overclock that. No air cooler can handle it.

5400rpm is just a tad too slow.

- Asus GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB ROG Strix Gaming OC Video Card

What monitor resolution? This thing is a total waste of money at 1080p - get a 2070 Super instead.
If 1440p and up, then OK!

And if I don't overclock it will the NH-DH15 handle it? To be honest I'm trying to avoid water cooling solutions and from many reviews I found the NH-DH15 an excellent one

Understandable.
From what I've read, the NH-D15 barely handles the 9900K(non-KS). The 9900KS is a little more power efficient, so it doesn't run quite as hot.
The NH-D15 should be able to handle the KS at stock. Overclocking is still out of the window though.
Now, if you can just find a KS at a non-jacked up price - because the one I linked in Partpicker is a 70% markup!

That's a misconception - on the better air flow part. Bigger doesn't always translate to better.
Many mid towers can cool just as good, if not, better than full size ones. If anything, the intake fans in some full/super tower cases tend to be farther away from the motherboard, and that adds another obstacle for airflow: distance, and that probably means a need for stronger fans.

But, if you want a full size for other reasons:

Many thanks for the explanation on both points. Indeed I thought otherwise. Therefore I might go for the midtower eventually and keep the i9 9900KS clocked
