What cooling system should I get for this build?

Solution
This is pretty much the best cooler for the money
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065&Tpk=cooler%20master%20212
really cant go wrong with a 212+
also if you need more cooling that get two of these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185059&cm_re=Scythe_Slipstream-_-35-185-059-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=4176827&SID=grp0m9ly9gk6
and use them on ths side

really depends how hard you plan to OC your 2500k
they run REALLY cool
if your not overclocking seriously the stock Intel will work fine
but if you want to be safe and might want to OC
then the 212+ plus 2 Scythe 120mm wouild
keep your rig pretty chilly :)

Solution
also 212+ is about 120 mm tall ( 5in)

your case is 7.48 inches side to side (width)
or about 190mm
so you have about a 70mm or 2.5 inch clearance

I believe I got that right :)
newegg list dimensions as 120mmx120mmx25m

Alot of Toms members agree on 212+ and Scythe
pretty popular here

IGNORE MY DIMENSIONS
I didnt get it right :(
sorry tired
check out this thread on the 212+
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/258023-29-installing-cooler-master-hyper
also check out this spec sheet from CM
http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?product_id=2731

from my reading it looks like your alright if your ram slots arent too close
or your ram is low profile (not over 37mm)

I looked at the mobo which is an ATX
and it looks to have good clearance around ram
you are getting Gskill Ripjaws which is a tall ram
so it would be nice to hear from somebody with experience with that mobo

Just avoid ram with the big "teeth" (cooling fins)
from reading reviews the big cooling fins dont really do anything for cooling
in real world applications

i would avoid the Corsiar Vengeance for example
the XMS3 are good

looking at your moboon your link
and looking at the CM 212+
you look pretty good
since it is a ATX size board
looking again at this link
http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?product_id=2731
if you look at picture of 212+ on mobo (bottom picture-third from left)
the fan would drawing off your ram and blowing towards back of case

okay was just searching toms
looks like the 212+ is good with ATX cases and mobos
just not mATX cases and mATX boards with tall ram like the Ripjaws

to be safe keep the Ripjaws in the farther away slots

2 x 2gb ripjaws
2 x 2gb standard low profile ram

I dig some digging and the closest in CL and voltage were
these Kingstons are nicefor the price
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104254&cm_re=ddr3_1600-_-20-104-254-_-Product
they are CL9 and your Ripjaws in combo are CL8
so your ram will drop to the lower timing of the Kingstons
but you wont ever notice the difference
unless your are going for world record memory benchmarks LOL

I want to be honest and tell I havent built a P67 board
so I hope some of the Sandy Bridge owners see this thread

Wow! Thanks for all this help! So if I wanted to get 2x 4gig ram of ripjaw, that would not be a good idea? Also, if the cooling system was taken out, would 4 ripjaws work? Thank you so much!

Pros: Just arrived yesterday, and already good to go. Used w/ a P67 mobo and 2500K, installed last night and in early testing surprised me, used AS 5 instead of the included compound and ran it up to 4.8 at for the moment, a nice cool 41 Celsius, will be in the, prob low 30's once the AS% cures. Will be running about 4.4 for the next few days

Cons: As mentioned by others, install can take a few minutes more than what you might expect, loosen the screws then get the left (from the mobo back plate on) then firmly attach the right and tighten down. No real big deal

Other Thoughts: For 1155 and 1366 is nice, doesn't interfere or overhang the DIMM sockets - now we'll see if they'll pay the promised rebate....LOL, yeah, sure they will.........

I'm planning on overclocking to 4-4.5 ghz, would the ZALMAN cooler work? Would it work with 4 ripjaws? And would 4 ripjaws work if there was no cooling system. BTW can I like give you points or something like that? You have been a great help to me

read this link
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/265083-29-which-cooler

On the bottom of posts there is a "Select Best Answer"
yes I get points :)

but lets make sure I REALLY am the best answer LOL

if you read that post
OCing 2500k is easy up to 4.5 or so even on stock cooling
I think the Zalman would be safe bet to fit
Also Zalman is an great company
very respected

in the newegg feedback I posted the poster had the 2500k up to 4.8 at 41 celcsius
on the Zalman which is good

should be fine with ripjaws
it is a 92mm cooler instead of 120 like the 212+ or Frio

this is from feeback on newegg link I posted

Pros: One pro that has not been mentioned is the excellent clearance of the memory slots allowing for the high heat sinks that some memory have. The cpu fan pulls air across the memory instead of blowing hot cpu air down onto the MB and out all sides onto the memory sticks like the stock coolers do. Idles at 35c and in game 2.8 Phenom 720 OC,ed to 3.2 goes to 45c. I also like the innovative design of the cooling fins ; )

Cons: Only one I can think of is finding a replacement fan a couple of years down the road.

Other Thoughts: Hold down for AMD works well and is less difficult to install than some coolers I have installed with the lever pull down clip.

I am a noob when it comes to overclocking, as I primarily use laptops. Will this build be nice for overclocking and keeping it nice and cool? I'm kinda nervous to overclock this computer, so I might wait a while first.

really with the power of that computer there isnt a need to overclock
I would leave it alone in the beginning and just enjoy it
It will overclock nice so when you need the extra power it is there
If you really want to learn overclocking then go ahead
just google "guide to overclocking" and check out the overclocking forum
here and also check out
http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/
just be careful
avoid upping your volts in the beginning
and make sure to use programs like CoreTemp and HWmonitor64
to monitor temps
I recommended the MSI hd 6870 Hawk because it is a good card to OC with
from all reviews

But like I said a 2500k is so fast that you really dont need to OC
until it starts to feel slow to you
which probably wont be for about 2-3 years at least LOL

That is a nice choice browsingtheworld BUT
with a 120mm cooler you have to worry about fitting tall ram
like Gskill Ripjaws and Corsair Vengeance

I linked this one earlier in post
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118090&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=4176827&SID=drvmgfejx0s9

remember he is getting a 2500k
and they run cool
you can OC one over 4.0 ghz with stock Intel HSF
so the Zalman will be more than enough
it is smaller than the 120mm coolers
it is cheap
it does a nice job of cooling (neighbor has one)

I was checking my motherboard, and it says it supports up to 2133*(OC) the 1600 is also written as 1600*(OC) does that mean the ram that I have to overclock the ram to get it's full power? Should I just buy DDR3 1333 ram instead?

Who said he was going to use all 4 DIMMs?

That cooler is horrible, at least recommend a good 92mm cooler.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233081&Tpk=xigmatek%20loki

first of all he said he was using all 4

second i know somebody that has that cooler
and it runs great
it is a freaking Zalman
Zalman doesnt make junk

the cooler you recommended looks good

but really you should think about how you post on Toms

we dont need people being disrespectful here
