My wife has a ASRock a320M-HDV R4.0 motherboard. The PC has 8gb of Ram. We are wanting her to be able to upgrade to windows 11 but it says her CPU (Ryzen 5 1400) isn't compatible. Would https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-5-5600g-ryzen-5-5000-g-series/p/N82E16819113683 be a good one to get?

The reason we are wanting to upgrade to windows 11 is because for the last few months her PC will randomly freeze when she launches some games and we figured that was a display driver issue but then when we go to run the previously downloaded Radeon Software we get a popup that says the software isn't compatible, and then we have to redownload it all over again. We've done all the fixes we can find online and it seems a ton of people are having this issue, but people have said upgrading to windows 11 fixes the issues for them. And if this CPU is that old, maybe it couldn't hurt to upgrade it.

So would the one above work? is that the best bang for my buck? I would really appreciate any advice on the best choice. I just assumed the Ryzen would be the best option because the GPU is a RX 580, but maybe it's not. Thanks for any and all help.

Ryzen 5 1400
8GB Ram
RX 580
Thermaltake Smart Series 500W

Thanks

If it were me, i would sell the cpu, ram, and motherboard, then buy a good b450 mobo (it's cheaper now) like b450m steel legend, pro4, mortar max, pro vdh max, etc. then grab a ryzen 3 3100, or 5600g if you still had the money, then go with 2x8gb 3600mhz or 3200mhz if its really cheap for the 3200 kit. that way, the performance will increase more than your 1400. Also win 11 is not a good reason to update IF the only reason is the pc will random freeze. a complete windows 10 reinstall might fix the issue.

Anyways, you could try uninstalling all processors in device manager like this (if it asks for restart click no and keep uninstalling till everything is empty):

then update the bios to version 4.00, then update to the latest amd chipset driver from amd web.

For the record, the Ryzen 5 5600G is not compatible with your motherboard.

Personally, I'd spend more time trying to resolve the issue rather than attempting a OS update. I'd even go so far as formatting and reinstalling Windows 10. Have you redownloaded the driver package from AMD (you said "previously downloaded")?

Ok so I did a total wipe of the PC reinstalled windows. I then cloned her drive over to a SSD drive and then removed the old HDD. I installed all updates, and Radeon Software made sure the Graphics drivers were up to date. I then restarted the PC to see if the Radeon Software would stay active on the PC (which was an issue before). I started up Conan loaded into the game everything worked fine. Closed the game shut down the pc, turned it back on got a black screen of death. Turned it back off and then on, Radeon Software wouldn't load when I tried to load it I got a message that said "The version of AMD software you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed graphics driver". It has done this for several months and I cannot seem to find a fix. I don't know if the issue is with graphically intensive games or what. I also just went to shut the PC down and there was no Sleep option, which has been there every other time. I googled the no sleep button and apparently I need to update the display driver. So the question is, why does the display driver keep messing up? I did check the box with the Radeon Software to remove all older drivers. Whats the chances this is a Conan Exiles issue? Is that even possible?
