What CPU Should I Get From AMD or Intel?

Just recently a Gaming PC broke down on me the other day, fair enough its been a good gaming PC for five years now, apart from that, this topic is about, what CPU is going to be better for me Gaming and for the price and performance. My budget for the CPU will be £200, im sure I can something good for the money there. I've been thinking of getting the AMD FX-4100 or the Intel Core i5 2500K since the 1155 socket motherboard support PCI-E 3.0 and reason for picking the FX-4100 I picked this for price and performance and heard that people are getting these upto 4.0GHz plus. So if you have any good CPU's in mind from either Intel or AMD im open for both AMD i've used these for all my life Intel i've not used them because of the price but I know there good.

Easy answer. 1155 socket and the i5 3570K. Or if stocks are limited, the 2500K. The 3570K is the successor to the 2500K and there is little if anything to choose between them. AMD FX isn't a bad processor, but not really in the same league.

Both are great companies with a great rep. Personally, I use an Intel processor at 4.4GHz and it is cool, fast and stable. Like you said, the 1155 socket has support on certain motherboards for PCIe x16 3.0. A simple Z68 chipset or Z77 with work great and you will also have that extra availability to upgrade to Ivy Bridge. I'm not too familiar with AMD, so I could only really recommend Intel from what I have read, their features, and personal experience. Best of luck!

Definately go with Intel now , look at a good i5 or i7.
I myself really like the i7 2600K or the i7 3770, but if they are too expensive go for a 2500K or 3570K, you will get great performance out of them.
The AMD's overclock well but unfortunately AMD has missed the mark with the FX series.

In order to get PCI-e 3.0 you need not only a board that will support it but also a processor that will work with that technology. So if you want PCI-E 3.0 support you are going to need to use the Intel Core i5-3570K.

Thanks for the help just got my i5-3570K today and to go with it a Asus Maximus V Gene mobo.
