I currently have a i3-4170, which does me alright in games when paired with 8gb ram and a strix 1050.

I want to upgrade to a better cpu as i would prefer something with more cores and threads.
anyone got any ideas im on a bit of a budget of around £150-£200 im willing to changle my mobo to upgrade.

thanks,

Callum

You won't be changing mobo because it's only worthwhile then to upgrade to newer platforms and you'll need to buy DDR4 RAM.
So for your budget you can look around ebay, or local used market for a deal on a 4th gen i7. If you have a Z series motherboard then get a K series 4th gen i7.
An i7-4770/4770k is what you're looking for.
Depending on your motherboard you may be able to use the i7-4790/4790k with a BIOS update. But you have to Google that and make sure

here is my system info my mobo is from a Packard bell imedia s2985 so a mobo upgrade is what I had in mind due to not being able to update the bios.

Problem with most OEM's are the cases are proprietary and cannot house standard components. An early model 4th gen might still work in your board, unless the bios is setup in a way to only work with what you have now. This would be the list of potentially compatible CPU's. https://ark.intel.com/compare/75038,75047,75043,75036,75122

Honestly, I would just wait till you can afford to build new.
