HI guys I've got a question my dram led blinks red twice after going through tons of different test mem86 test(4 passes 0 errors,)memok, cmos reset, none helped checked cpu pin if bent there none, checked to make sure cord are all installed well, motherboards on standoff and screw arent overly tighten so i decided to breadboard to locate the problem only when i installed memory does it blink red. Anyways to get to the real question I asked asus how can my memory passes mem 86 test but still have dram led binking red. Asus told me"According to some memory manufacturers website, some memory need higher
voltage and different timings than standard. So it wouldn't mean certainly
the memorys are defective. Please refer to the memory manual and adjust the memory voltage and timings manually to have a test". only problem is my memory didnt come with a maunual just a one small piece of paper with a few pictures on how to properlly install .so i decided to download manual from website but i could not find one for the kingston hyperx fury 2x4 gb.only thing i found was a description of features
what do i adjust the timings and voltages too? And is that all i should adjust? Mine is Kingston hyper x fury 1866mhz 2x4 gbs

My motherboard is Asus m5a97
Cpu:Amd fx 8320
Gpu:radeon 7950

Solution
What set of DRAM? The model #, it's doubtful that the 8320 can run 2133 (possible, but so-so), with the model # we can try setting them up manually
1) If MEMTEST has passed I don't think you have an issue.

2) You don't state what the RED BLINK even means, nor provide the motherboard name so we could lookup the manual to see. I don't think it's a failure since Memtest passed.

3) *As said, just select "XMP" for now to preset the CPU and DDR3 memory optimal settings. Then retest with Memtest.

4) Make sure your two memory sticks are in the RECOMMENDED slots if you have more than two on the motherboard. See the motherboard manual. It's often #2 and #4 slots but not always.

5) Update your motherboard BIOS if newer exists as well. I suggest you do that first, then "XMP" and any other settings needed, and finally retest with MEMTEST.

If AMD, it may well not even have XMP, may use DOCP or EOCP or may have to be done manually, that's why it's nice to know what mobo and CPU , may even be a CPU that isn't even capable of 1866

Sorry I didn't think the motherboard was necessary but its a asus m5a97 r 2.0 .and yes i have them in the recommended A2 B2 slots i even switched them to others and tried that thinking maybe something wrong with the particular slots but that wasn't it either.and i don't know what the blinking red twice means .Asus tech support didn't say nor could i find anything on it on the web other then solid red dram led.

The R2.0 specs http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_R20/specifications/ say
"4 x DIMM, Max. 32GB, DDR3 2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz ECC, Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory Dual Channel Memory Architecture "

So all your ram should work. Just not all at once.

Haha sorry about not putting the motherboard on there (i updated) but yeah my motherboard isAsus m5a97 R2.0 it has TurboV Evo

Can look for DOCP or EOCP, those will set up (or try according to the data in your sticks), else can set the freq and timings manually, with AMD might need to add say + 0.05 to the DRAM voltage - can try that, if problems persist let us know and we can adjust CPU/NB

Alrighty thank you ill give that a try :)

1) The setting you should apply in the BIOS is simply "AUTO" then save. It's unclear from the manual how this affects the memory. It's possible it will set it to 1866MHz and the correct timings. I would expect so.

2) If the DDR3 settings aren't optimal then you can use DOCP, but don't do that until you've confirmed the system is stable with no issues.

3) You can alternatively install the AI SUITE and manage overclocking profiles from within Windows (see manual). It also has a fan control setup you should look at as you may want to optimize a better profile for the CPU and any case fans that are attached (noise vs temp).

4) I saw no descriptions of errors in the manual, nor do I understand the Asus explanation. However if the blinking lights occur under "AUTO" I'd then try DOCP for your memory under the 1866MHz heading. Again, though "AUTO" would hopefully correctly identify it. It's not just the frequency, it's also the timings so I'd want that detected and applied automatically.

*Speaking of which, I believe I mentioned updating the BIOS if it wasn't the latest because new DDR3 profiles are sometimes added.

5) #2 and #4 slots are the correct ones. Technically called A2, B2. Make sure that's where your memory is installed.

6) If you still get the red flash, but your frequency is correct, MEMTEST passes, and Windows has no issues then just ignore it.

HI there and thanks i did do all of that except for updateing the bios .I ended up returning the ram sticks and hopefu
lly and im getting new ones hopefully i will have no more issue but ill let you no (if i still have issues ill update the bios first) just incase your curious i order a pair of G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory

hey and thanks but yeah that didnt work i ended up ordering me a new pair im hoping that will resolve all issues (ill let ya kno tho if i still continue to have problems) i order a pair of
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory

I'm confused why you sent back the DDR3 memory if Memtest passed.

Did Technical Support not troubleshoot with you? Often they ask you to run Memtest.

yeah i did several mem test 86 and it passed and ive been talken to tech support and even told them that i was planning on sending it back they didnt denie nor say that i should. so i didand your right it was silly to do as i just installed my new rip jaw 2133mhz and still got 2 red blinks and a beep upon boot up.is there any way to check if motherboard is bad?(p.s the reason i had sent it back is because even thought i had did several mem 86 test and passed,i bread boarded to just cpu, heat sink and psu (motherboard dram was straight red with alot beeps i assumed because there was no ram installed.only when i installed the ram the motherboard blink red twice and thought that had to be the problem)

before i sent the old ones back they had me try setting the timeing and voltage in the bios to docp that did not help. so they suggest for the second time that i check for bent cpu pins which i had previously checked when breadboarding it(there was none and i asumme they are running out of ideas) .then they asked that i switch out with a diffrent pair to see if it would work i told them i didnt have a spare.or that would of been the first thing trying

oh why wouldnt 2133 work with 8320 ?do you think it be better to get 1866 ram instead .pc part picker didnt say there would be any compatibility issue
model number of ram = f3-2133c9d-8gxl
i set the ai overclocker tuner to DOCP
Dram o.c profile ddr3 2133mhz
memory frequency to ddr3 2133
(i had to change it. cause it was set to 1866 from my previous ram) then i saved and reset bios to see if that helped but it didnt .it says current cpu speed 3500mhz
target cpu 3500mhz
currrent mem frequency 2133mhz
current nb frequency 2200mhz
current ht link speed 2200mhz ( dont know if knowing this will help any )

The AMD FX CPU's are rated up to 1866 at 1 stick per channel (and that testing was done w/ 4 GB sticks)....you can 'run' 2800 sticks with a 8320, though you aren't going to run them at 2800......have also seen where partpicker though a 400 watt PSU was perfectly fine for a nVidia Titan GPU...or you can use a nice big massive CPU cooler in a nice thin (5" wide) Micro case (easy I guess, just leave the side panel off 😉 )..... I'm not a fan of PartPicker

ohh okay soo your saying i just wont be able to use 2133 ram sticks to there full potential? i assume id end up running the stick at 1866mhz.what settings should i manually adjust and what should i adjust it to?

okay thanks so much .do you think thats why my dram light flashes red twice?
