Hello everyone, quick question.

Recently i upgraded my gtx650 ti, to a gtx 760... In the hope it would increase my FPS, it did, but barely.

This is my system, i really want to play dayz standalone, but my FPS isn't great when you enter the cities... Any suggestions? I have everything turned down and have tried all the FPS optimization guides.

M5A78L-M/USB3 (MOBO)
FX-6300 (PROCESSOR)
12 GB DDR3 (RAM)
GTX 760 (GFX CARD)

Please help? Thanks!

Solution
My understanding is that dayz is highly single threaded.
That makes a FX-6300 a less than optimal pick for a cpu.
1. 5 of the 6 cores will be largely unused.
2. FX cores are relatively slow per clock compared to intel. 30%? slower.

If you can overclock your FX it should help.
As a back handed way to verify that the cpu is the culprit,
Limit your cpu, either by reducing the OC, or, in windows power management, limit the maximum cpu% to something like 70%.
Go to control panel/power options/change plan settings/change advanced power settings/processor power management/maximum processor state/
This will simulate what a lack of cpu power will do.
Conversely what a 30% improvement in core speed might do.

You could also experiment...

DayZ Standalone is beta and still not optimized. You could update your processor and squeeze out some more fps, but honestly until it's optimized slow-down is going to happen. I'mrunning an i5-3570k paired with a r9 290 and get solid fps.

You could also experiment with removing one core in the bios. This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many cores.

If your FPS drops significantly, it is an indicator that your cpu is the limiting factor, and a cpu upgrade is in order.

If you can consider a cpu change, look at the $65 G3258 with a easily attained overclock in the 4.4 range.
Yes, it is only a dual core, but the single threaded compute power will be about double what you can get on a FX chip, and will equal the $330 i7-4790K.
