I just ordered my parts and everything and they should be here in a week. I know how to build and install the os. But I never really looked into what I should change in the bios, drivers, and keeping them up to date. Can you guys help me in this?

I5 4670k
Msi z87 g45
G skill sniper 8gb 1866
Corsair cx750m
Kingston ssdnow v300 120g
Wd blue 1tb 7200rpm
Windows 8.1 64-bit

I know I don't have a cpu cooler or gpu but I am 14 and I don't have a job. However my birthday is in 2 months so I will be getting those very soon.

It depends if you plan on any OC. If no, then only change in BIOS would be boot sequence (as soon as you install OS, just set HDD as primary device).
Then proceed with driver instalation:

  • ■chipset
    ■gpu
    ■additional peripherals

Next thing - system updates.
Since you got all above, you are good to go ;).

Would the bios have XMP enabled already? And don't I have to change something from/to ACHI(something like that) for the hdd I think?

I just really don't want to screw up and have my dad very upset.

With the 1866 DRAM, need to enable XMP and select profile 1, also should go to mobo site and download all the latest drivers and see if you have the latest BIOS...the drivers on the CD/DVD that came with the mobo are quite possibly already outdated
