I have been using a pentium, so Ive always been lowest settings lowest res. So high on team fortress 2 would be great, as thats probably my most played game. And im looking to only spend like 300 - 400 on the computer without the graphics card, then put in the card when I get the money. Reason for this is I need the computer for school, and cant afford the full package yet . Will this build let me play games like team fortress 2 at high settings?.

just throwin out a curve ball here. With the gaming level your used to you could probably get the new AMD APU and be fine. You could then combine that with a cheaper AMD card and save some cash and still play at god settings lol.

I want to future proof, for games that I will want to play in the future . Is there that big a difference between i3 and i5 for gaming? And so With the set up I've listed, Will tf2 work on max?

In the desktop space the difference between the Intel® Core™ i3 and the Intel Core i5 comes down to the a dual core support 4 threads vs. a quad core supporting 4 threads. If you are looking for future proofing look at the Intel Core i5-2500K with its unlocked multiplier allowing you to overclock this processor.
