it is a better quality unit than a CX500.
Kingston SSDNOW V300 uses cheap flash memory so it doesn't meet advertised speed.

I was wanting to have a semi modular psu and adding those things will make my build too expensive

Don't prioritise modularity over quality. Your power supply is equally important in supplying power to your components.
