On Lenovo's site it says that in order to return an item, it has to be in its original package. Does this mean that I cannot open it and use it before i return it?

Here is the return policy,
Lenovo will accept the return or exchange of a product in its original package for a full refund in cases of Lenovo error

You can call them and confirm it, but I'm pretty sure that if they meant unopened, they would have put it in the statement. Especially since they have lawyers that vet any liability statements. Also, in most cases customers are going to have to open the package in order to find out if there's something wrong with it. If the box is smashed in shipping, I would not open it - just ship it back.

Lenovo is so stupid. They said that I have to pay a %15 restock fee for returning something that I do not want. %15 doesn't sound like a lot? Well I paid $1200 and the "restock fee" is nearly $200!!!

Why would you think they are stupid? Their return policy is clearly stated.
Now that you have bought the item and returned it, it can no longer be sold as NEW. They now have to sale it as refurbished unit at a loss, after paying labor to check it and recertify it.

How would it not be new when I haven't even opened it -_-
