My computer is fairly outdated and doesn't run most games very well anymore, so I want to know what I need to upgrade.
My specs:
CPU - AMD FX-770k Quad Core Processor 3.50 GHz
RAM - 12 GB DDR3 @ 804MHz
Motherboard - LENOVO Bantry CRB
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950

I'm assuming I need to upgrade everything so I have a replacement for all of the above and would like to know if there'll be any issues in the hardware compatibility or in general and if there are better options.
CPU - Intel - Core i5-7400 3GHz Quad-Core Processor
RAM - Team - Dark 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Motherboard - MSI - B250M PRO-VD Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
GPU - MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GT OCV1 Video Card

You'll need:
1. A more powerful CPU. The FX 770K is very outdated.
2. A new motherboard (1 because your getting a new CPU and 2 because you just need an upgrade)
3. Upgrade from DDR3 to DDR4 RAM.
4. The GPU should be fine, but if you have the money, invest in a new GPU.

So here are my recommendations:
CPU: Intel i7 8700k
MOBO: ASUS Prime Z370-A
RAM: Any brand that is DDR4 and is or above 2400Mhz
GPU: [If you really want to upgrade your GPU, you can upgrade to a] GTX 1060

Hope this helped!

EDIT: As @SkyNetRising said, you'll need a new PSU if it is not powerful enough for new components/is too old and outdated.

I believe my PSU is 450W, don't have much other information other than that, so I'm assuming an upgrade for that is necessary as well?
I was looking at the EVGA - SuperNOVA G3 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (getting all of this information from pcpartpicker btw), would that be sufficient?

Thanks for the suggestion, and what's the difference between b360 board and b250m?

Thanks for the tips!

@picnics - while they're named as the same socket the newer coffee lake 8*** cpu's do not work on the older model boards.

H310
H370
B360
Z370

Those are the board models you need to look at.

I daresay you could, just about squeeze the 6 core i5 8400 for close to the same, price as an i5 7400
