I am going to get AMD 9800x3d and MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI. When choosing RAM (16 G*2), I have some uncertainties. If I am not going to enable EXPO, what frequency will my RAM run at? If I understand correctly, the specifications of 9800x3d say it supports 5600 MHz DDR5 RAM at maximum, right? Since the motherboard supports a range of frequencies, so if I buy RAM with 6400 MHz, will they run at 5600 MHz or other frequencies? Thanks!

I would expect that, worst case, is that the memory would run at the default DDR5 4800Mhz.

Lots of info available searching these terms: default ddr5 speed

Some layman, some very technical.
Thanks! So if I want to achieve 5600 MHz, I have to enable XMP or EXPO, right? But shouldn't XMP or EXPO brings the frequencies even higher?

EXPO (AMD's equivalent to XMP) can set the memory at a higher rated speed, yes. If the memory you choose has the profile programmed into it.

Please link the specific memory you are asking about.
I want to buy Corsair vengeance 16 GB*2, 6400 MT/s, but for some reason, I do not have access to the EXPO version, only the XMP version. If without EXPO enabled, RAM runs at 4800 MT/s; with EXPO enabled, RAM runs at >5600 MT/s, then what is the point of CPU maximal supported frequencies only at 5600 MT/s?

That memory will work perfectly fine in an Intel based system. You may be able to manually tweak it for higher speeds in an AMD system.

Regardless, from a user's normal operation perspective, you'll see zero difference in speeds from the desktop. If benchmarking, yes. you would see some relatively small difference. Same for perceived FPS differences in gaming.
