Question What happens if I use a 6 pin connector on a GPU that needs 8 pins?

Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 Aorus

I also have an 800 watt power supply.
I’ve seen multiple threads about this but since everyone has different power supplies, I have to ask myself since the 6 pin to 8 pin adapter is coming on Wednesday.

you don't want to use an adapter what PSU do you have it should already have an 8pin

If your 800w psu lacks an 8-pin or 6+2 pin connector its likely garbage quality. Return the adapter and buy a better quality psu.

What power supply would you recommend? I have an old case so its gonna have to go on the top unfortunately.

For new PSU - Seasonic S12II-620 (or M12II-EVO620 for modular cables) would go with your Radeon RX 580 quite well.
