Just wandering what heatsinks/fans you all would use on a AMD 3200+. I am on the hunt...there are just soo many so I'll have you all narrow the field a little.

Price is kind of in mind I don't want any SLK's or anything over $60.

Oh yeah I just bought a AMD 3200+, with a GIGABYTE "GA-K8NSNXP" nForce3 250 Chipset Motherboard, eVGA Geforce 6800 GT. I know the processor/vid card is kick A, but you all think the motherboard will be pretty good? I've read its pretty good, just need to upgrade the bios for sure whenever I get it.

i would take a gander at Thermalright's XP-120 if i were you - the price is right and the performance is WELL worth it. forget about the Zalman, go with something cooler  .

and now for something completely different

Yeah, an xp-120 on an athlon xp would be kickin! One prob though, specs indicate it's not compatible:

AMD: Athlon64 FX 3200+ (socket 939/940) /Athlon64 3200+ (socket 754) and above
Intel: Pentium-4 socket 478 3.2 GHz and above

Sorry to rain on that parade, I wish it wasn't so ;.; Unless there's a way to mod it for Socket A use (which I've searched for and so far haven't found).

Are you talking about a cooler for a 3200+ XP, or a 3200+ A64?

And yes that Giga-Byte board you bought is good.

The zalman 7000 suggestion is a great suggestion. al/cu or cu is a fine choice. I prefer al/cu, its like less than half the massive weight, not too often an issue, but this sucker is huge, any more weight, snip snap sheer crack if you move around your case here and thera and the board stands verticle.

amd64 3000 can oc up to about 2.2ish with fan on ultra low setting, inaudible setting just about (for most people it would be inaudible, i have super good hearing, so its a slight fluf).
