My brother (almost 40 Years Old), is unable to keep his computer clean, and only when looking at the display pops an ad, or searching the web is impossible, is when he asks for help, by that time, the OS seems to be beyond saving, and has to be completely wiped out and reinstalled.

Stuff like fake antivirus and impossible to remove Chrome extensions (enterprise policy and stuff), are to be expected, along with thousands of other malwares and a bunch of trojans.

I can't think this is 100% his fault (but at least 80% IS), he's an accountant, and had multiple jobs where the employees and Bosses themselves had some funky business, reason why he's moving between jobs, and some of the techs seem to find their way to his laptop if he ever takes it with him, when he is suspicious of accounting stuff or his working equipment they've gone as far as disabling USB ports and stuff (in his enteprise provided Laptop, Lenovo Thinkpads with tons of security features)

I need some kind of solution to avoid this, as this is getting ridiculous, I don't know if he really loves his porn sites despite the fact he's getting malware over and over, but he's computer knowledge seems like that of a 3 year old, and is impossible to explain this kind of stuff to him, even when it all seems so natural to me, and try any kind of metaphors to try to explain the inner workings of this, he always find a way to take it on detour...

My brother is brilliant man and someone I look up to, but computers are not one of his strongest points, and I'm under the impression is the opposite, as it seems it is he's weakest.

Any help will be appreciated.

Uninstall Windows and install Linux. Problem solved.

But seriously,... This sounds like a hopeless cause. Learning to effectively navigate Windows and learning to surf the Web without getting tons of malware is simply a matter of learning as you go. If he uses the computer a lot and hasn't learned these things yet, then maybe he can't learn them. Or maybe he has "computer anxiety"--an intellectual mental block caused by fear. I find that the Dummies books are actually very good. Windows for Dummies? The Internet for Dummies? They might help.

I've tried a lot of virus protection, I might try Kaspersky, believe me, I'm not a fan of Norton, but that's not gonna change anything, im pretty sure, I need another kind of solution.

Will get one of those books.

As for the non admin account, a lot of utilities he uses will never work, that's part of the problem, but I'm gonna try

Nothing new here. People here are hardcore hobbyists and to us is second nature but to a plain user, he just wants to use the tool without having deal with all the crap. As a long term solution, I recommend a nice Macbook.

...and it goes without saying that a good antivirus is important. Many free AVs are themselves just short of malware. I pay for TrendMicro and use Malwarebytes as a secondary AV. On top of that, Ccleaner is an essential toll for anyone who can't keep their Windows PCs clean.

Keep in mind that if he's getting lots of malware, it may not be porn sites that are doing it. Some of the worst offenders are sports sites and sports forums.

But again, we learn as we go. If site A is mucking up my computer, then I don't go back to site A. Try to teach him to look at his URLs for redirects. This is fundamental to not being fooled by nefarious websites.

Agreed. For folks who just don't want to learn what we take a second nature should just get a plug-and-play Mac.
