I know it's my case that is causing my motherboard to short because I removed it from the case and I was able to turn it on. While in the case, my build only turns on for a sec and shuts off immediately. Are there other things that could cause the short on my motherboard or is my case the only issue?

Pre installed standoffs, or self fitted one by yourself should always be checked to make sure no extra standoffs have been fitted where one may touch the back of the motherboard where no pass through hole exists on the motherboard it`s self.

You should remove the motherboard, from the motherboard mounting plate of the system case and check by offering up the board to the plate making sure standoffs are in the correct places to all of the holes on the motherboard.

And look for extra standoffs in the wrong places.

System cases can take more than one type of motherboard depending on the size of the board.
There for the standoffs are not always if pre fitted to the motherboard mounting plate Zeruko.
Based on your motherboard from a ATX to a M-atx or a micro board.

A standoff always has to be moved, or removed

You need to closely inspect the positions of the standoffs on the mounting plate for the motherboard of the case.
And will indeed find a standoff on the plate that does not line up with the screw holes of the motherboard you have, or needs to be removed.

Ok, I removed three extra ones. Still having the same problem. should I just go buy new standoffs?

When starting the pc with the motherboard removed from the case (breadboarded) how are you turning on the power to the system? Are you jumping connections to start it up or are you using the same power cable from the inside of the case connected to the case power button? If jumping the psu manually to start the system outside of the case but using the case power button cables when installed it may be a faulty case switch.

Of course if you can pull that cable lead out of the case far enough to still use the case's power button with the mobo outside of the case then it's not likely the issue.

I use the cables from the case and connect them to my motherboard. I take out everything from the case even the PSU. It turns on fine but when I put everything base into the case. The problem returns. Maybe its the PSU? Im not using all of the standoffs. Only the ones that all me to screw the motherboard into place.
