What is ioctl call

Hello,
My pen drive is not working properly. When I connect it to the PC it says need to format and when I request to format it prompts "ERROR in IOCTL call'. Can you help me to resolve this.?

It's an input output controller fault. Either a bad controller or a damaged device.
Check the USB drivers , if they are fine then the Pen Drives gone bad.

Easy way: try the drive with another computer and try the computer with another drive. One will probably fail, and that'll tell you the source of the problem.
