What is the best way to do this?

I need to transfer the data from the hard drive in my laptop to another hard drive. My laptop has an esata port and a few usb 3.0 ports. What would be the best cheapest way to do this?

If the other HDD is in another computer, just share through network. Takes longer but absolutely free.

Yep its a momentus xt I'm switching to. I already have one in my desktop and it is so fast, it boots up in 15 seconds.

ok, if you got any concerns pyree is pretty good at helping with a images, pretty smart for a hare, i never have done it myself.

The system image is not difficult to make. Just use the system backup function in W7, create the image and put it on an external USB HDD (not your momentus XT) and burn a recovery disk. Change the HDD (momentus XT in, default HDD in laptop out), change SATA to AHCI if it is not already, plug in external HDD that contains the system image and boot from OD with recovery disk in. Window recovery will detect the USB external HDD. You select the image to be recovered and voilà.
