What is the difference between an AMD K8 and AM3 Sockets?

I am building my own computer for the first time and I would like to liquid cool the processor. I can find kits that will fit the AMD K8 processor socket but none for the AM3. Is there like an adapter or something that i could get? Or will the K8 system work for the AM3?

You are using two unrelated terms. K8 refers to the archtecture, AM3 refers to the socket. What kit are you looking at? If it fit AM2 or AM2+ it will very likely fit AM3, they didnt change the cooler mount very much.

(I know that this is not the right thread but does any one know if either of these motherboards will fit into a Cooler Master HAF 932 AMD Limited Edition Full Tower ATX Computer Case? And if the case comes with it's own liquid cooling system.)

Go with the second one,it has a newer chipest,better OC'ng potential and also USB 3.0 / Sata 6.0 support. And it will fit fine in the HAF 932 AMD edition

No it doesn't come with liquid cooling,you have to buy it separately

would a Thermaltake CL-W0075 BigWater 735 12cm Liquid Cooling System for Intel LGA775 and AM2 Platform work? or is it the wrong size?

Is liquid cooling a must for you ? I'm asking because you can get a good OC with good CPU coolers.

Watercooling is a waste of money really, it just looks really cool. I have a 30% overclock on my GPU and a 34% overclock on my CPU on air and they run cooler than they did on stock speeds with the stock coolers. Just inverst in some good air cooling and it will do the same job but for a quarter of the price. And then you can buy a better processor/graphics card with the £150 you will save

I suggest you get a HDT-S1283 if your looking at a AMD processor. It is what I use and it is absolutely brilliant. The fan doesn't even run when my system is idle and it only clicks in under high system load.

I believe thats just the S-1283 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003&cm_re=xigmatek_hdt-s1283-_-35-233-003-_-Product ) with a different fan, its a good cooler though.

How much can you spend? You can buy better coolers in the ~$60 range.
