Hi. I currently have an FX-6300 which bottlenecks my GTX Zotac 750Ti in BF1. I plan to upgrade to a GTX 1080. Having only reently learned about botlenecks, i had no idea it would be a problem. What is the minimum of a CPU that i should pair with a GTX 1080? and how much should i expect to spend? Would it be okay to get the CPU second hand?

Solution
Minimum is probably a 6600k to be honest, but if you're gonna spend that much on a GPU I might just spend the extra $100 and get a 6700k to make your PC more well rounded. If you want to get a second hand 4790k or 4690k that would also be fine; it's pretty hard to break a CPU so I wouldn't worry. However, 2nd hand motherboards can be dicey. Just make sure any 2nd hand processor you buy hasn't been delidded by the previous owner and you should be fine.

So i cant fit th 6600k or any other into the Am3+ socket? If so what motherbaord do you recommend? thanks for the help. Im getting the GPU for birthday and Christmas so ill need to savefor the CPU thats why. Can u reccomend an AMD Fx perhaps the 8350 or will it still bottlenck. Or just an AM3+ socketed CPU which wont bottleneck it? It would b nice if i didnt have to completly rebuild XD

Its mostly for recording but 1440p or 1080p
I'm planning to go to 4k however
How about the FX-9370?
I heard the 9 series are bad but... Idk

They are, and there are only a few motherboards that can support a processor that requires that much power. Which motherboard are you on?

Im on the Asus M5A97 motherboard and now plan to get a 1070. Will any of the FXs surfice? BTW thanks for the help

You can't run the FX 9xxx series CPUs on that motherboard it doesn't have beefy enough power phases. An fx 8350 wouldn't be THAT bad but again it's not much better than an FX 6300 and a very poor investment.

I would suggest a setup like this. However, if you can find a used 4790k and a z97 board that would actually be great.

Also make sure that your power supply is at least 500W and from a quality manufacturer. You don't want all this stuff getting burned by a crappy PSU.

Currently every AMD processor is not a great pairing for any high end video cards, if you want to wait since you mentioned going 4k in the future. Wait for the new AMD Zen chips to come out, and see how they compare to the Intel chips currently

Yeah its going to be just that. I had a look on PC partpicker for AM3+ socket CPUs but couldn't find much... Do u know of any? That will go with my mother board?
