Lotta folks asking about that retailer. If you do not wish to disclose their identity, or are prohibited from doing so, you may want to inform us as such, so that people can stop asking.

In fact, you may want to consider editing your first post in this thread to include a short summary of all the events that have occured and the conclusion of the situation. Just a thought.

In any event, enjoy the new "Ferrari" CPU. I hope you have great success with it, and thank you very much for sharing the experiance with us.

This is not a direct response to you but along the lines of LordGeek not naming the retailer. I would bet money, that since I am sure there is or will soon be a suit between Intel and the unnamed retailer he is not allowed to name the retailer because of legal proceedings not unlike serving as a juror or party to a court case you are normally forbidden from revealing details of said case, it is standard procedure for most legal proceedings to protect both parties.

Heat is correct. When checking out engineering samples to outside sources, contracts must be signed. And in big, red, bold letters at the top of the document is bullet point 1.)THIS CHIP MUST NEVER BE RESOLD.

Handy that the serial numbers are recorded and tracked against the fellow that signed them out in the first place.
 
I'm really glad Intel did you right on this. I always believed that they would send you at least a X6800. You obviously indicated your preference for the QX6700. I noticed that on Newegg the X6800 is $970 retail. I know you ordered an OEM. Newegg shows the QX6700 for only $15 or $20 dollars more than the retail version of the X6800.. Just curious what you actually had originally paid for the X6800 OEM.
I guess I'm saying that while Intel did your right, they didn't go out of their way to upgrade you if there is only a $20 or so difference.
I am aware that you may get all of your money back, but that is through your financial institution, not Intel.
 
What I want to know is did you get your money back? So the CPU is a freebee then???????????

Yea who is the company who sold you the chip......maybe they will send me one too and I can get a free cpu from Intel.:lol:

Yeah,

I guess Intel really didn't do much here, just sent out a comparable chip. If they are selling around the same price on newegg, then, the two must be comparable to how much it costs Intel to make them. So, really, the only way you come out ahead here, is, if you get your money back. In that case the institution we should be praising is your bank, as Intel did not go above and beyond, they traded one chip for another.

Which begs the question: what does Intel do with the ESes then? Does Intel call them back in at a later date? Do the OEMs/mobo mfrs/review sites simply keep them as a free gift? I'm guessing the latter as the chips probably get very abused by OC-ing reviewers and free chips makes Intel look better to the reviewers. Not that it's intended to (I hope) bias them, but more to generate good will or simply not make Intel look like a stingy company, recalling in its ESes.

This means Intel sent the chip out before receiving LordGreeks ES chip and his note.

Errr...Intel did this on their own accord. And sent their cream of the crop chip without having read his little note. They could have also easily said "Screw you Lord." And then not sent a chip at all. For you to say that Intel didn't go out of their way to send him one of their best products receiving no $$$$ at all is well.... to be kind....is being very nearsighted. Kudos goes to Intel for doing the right thing.

Your right. As long as this saga has been going on, I forgot that Intel wouldn't even receive the chip until today.

Perhaps creating a new thread that summarizes this story is a good idea? Somewhat showing how a situation like this should be handled maybe?

I am still a bit skeptical, I would like more proof, I am sure they would have sent some kind of note with the cpu. I would think it is fairly easy to run into a store and hold up a box to snap some shots of something like that. I would like to see the cpu out of the box, and also, I would like to see some cpuz verification. Not trying to discredit the op, just don't see why any company would send a product out for no reason. By no reason I mean before they have even recieved what they should be replacing at no cost. Maybe the ES issue is a big deal to them, and as discussed before by Action Man I think, the cpu probably only cost $50-$75 or less to make(using the numbers he used for dual core and doubling it). Still though, it says something if they really sent out the top of the line hardware, without even receiving the hardware that they were supposed to replace. I would still like more proof though.

Wes, I think you may even be more of a skeptic than I am, and I didnt think that was possible. :wink:

I wouldnt hold my breath on the pics though. Lordgeek hasnt posted a thing since the box pics. I would suspect he is playing with his new "toy" rather than watching the THG forums just at the moment. I know I would be.

It's a wild guess, but look at their specs for OEM chips
The CPU you are ordering, if it is designated as OEM it may be NEW or PreOwned

Depending on how old the cpu is and how long it has been out of production, the CPU condition may be new, pull, pre-owned, or like-new condition. The older the cpu is the more like it is out of production. In that case these pre-owned, pulls are the only ones available.

I doubt it, look at their prices. He supposedly went with the retailer in question for a better price, but the prices at the site you've shown SUCK. Not to mention having sh$$ty policies and lying to people about the difference between OEM and used.

I unfortunately doubt he will tell us who the retailer is. 🙁
