What is tracking id for microsoft works

Hello,
so i have my pc for abt 8 months and all the time i have been using microsoft words and powerpoint...but for a while now its been asking me for a product key and its a 25 character code...so at first i didnt knw what that was...so i did some research and apparently its this code on the microsoft works cd...but when i looked at the cd it says ''tracking id and its not 25 characters''...so can someone plez help

Tracking id is not the software key!You need the activation key!IF you bought this from retail it should be on the packaging somewhere!Should be on the sleeve or case!
