Heres my story. So yesterday it was late, and I was just getting offline. I shut down my PC like normal and while the windows screen was JUST going away and the pc was like 5seconds away from shutting down I flipped the switch on the back to shut it completely down so it doesnt draw any power and doesnt keep my keyboard lit up so my LEDs last longer. Now I am thinking at this point nothing is wrong and I went to bed. Just turned the PC on and the GPU doesn't display screen. I tried the HDMI port on the back (which I think is the Motherboard) and it works! But my GPU screen or w/e you call it doesn't show anything and says no signal. My GPU fans are spinning and looks OK? I dont know because I am new to EVERYTHING about pc and didn't even build it my self because I didn't wanna screw anything up.

My question is how do I know what parts I just messed up? Its not my CPU, its probably my GPU, it can't be my ram because its detecting 8gb of ram and is working, it can't be my motherboard, nor my HDD so at this point... Did I just fry my GPU?

Solution
Just to reinforce your lesson...NEVER flip the power switch on the PC when it is operating!!!

To clarify, you were able to load into windows as normal and use the system when the screen was plugged into the HDMI port of the motherboard?

If this is the case, uninstall the drivers for your GPU completely, reboot, then re-install the drivers, reboot and see if the system recognizes the card. If so, boot down...without flipping the power switch...change the cables round and try using the gpu again to drive the monitor.

On a side note, unless you are leaving the house and plan not to return for more than 48 hours, you can turn the power off when the system is off and has cooled down (some fans continue spinning after shutdown to cool the...

Click No, then shutdown the pc yourself. Change the monitor cable back to the gfx card. Turn on the system again. Watch as your eyes light up and you try to imagine how your hero in shining armour looks. Wipe the tear of joy from your face. Come back here and confirm everything is ok again. Pick the right post as a the solution and we shall part ways and maybe one day, unknowingly cross paths in a game...

ok as I did this and shut it down... it was good I am still on motherboard but I went to device manager and saw my GTX Card now has a yellow triangle I right clicked properties and it said (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43))

So you shut down? Or did you go to the device manager before shutting down? Why are you still on mobo?

You confuse me by making everything complicated and it is grating me a little. So let's keep this simple and step by step.

How many of my steps did you follow? Because it sounds like you ignored them by not switching the cables when the pc was off.

I shut down, rebooted, went to device manager, t hen saw it wasnt working. I am still on mobo lol

Why did you not follow what I said and switch the cables? What possible reason could there be? What was going to be the worst that could happen?

I said...shutdown, change cables to gpu, power up.

Not restart, go to control panel and look for triangles and errors.

By usingthe mobo you are telling the pc to use the inbuilt gfx instead of the nvidia one. So windows turns that off.

Just take simple instructions, especially when you are severely limited in your knowledge on troubleshooting this.

You did this when the PC was off I hope.......................

This does nothing, so you wasted some time, thank people nicely.

If you won't follow what I say, I won't help you.

Take it easy and good luck

I want to follow you but its just a lot of people recommended it sorry. I will listen now.
