What kind of CPUs will work with my PC

Wanting to upgrade my current computer's cpu, just wondering if their are certain restriction with the mother board/PSU/hardrive and if I should upgrade to ddr3. Price range would $100-$130 for a new cpu

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz
RAM: 6 Gigs ddr2
Chipset Intel G33
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 750ti 2gb ddr5
Hard Drive: 500 GB
Power Supply: 400 watts

you would be better off saving your money, and getting a new motherboard/cpu/ram when you can afford it. you'll also need a new power supply while you are in there.

You already have one of the best CPUs that goes in that motherboard. Anyway - you will not be able to find many that go in G33. It is old and CPUs for that motherboard are not produced for the past 7-8 years or so. Don't spend your money - it is a dead platform. Gather 300 or so and get a new I3 6100 with a new motherboard and 8 GBs DDR4. That would be much better investment.

Your motherboard will take only socket 775 CPUs... your's is 2.40Ghz so a faster Core 2 Quad would be your only option. Some motherboards may not handle the faster CPUs, so make sure your's can use the specific Core 2 Quad you choose... and if you can find it... You can't upgrade that motherboard to DDR3 RAM, so you may want to upgrade motherboard, CPU and RAM. With $130.00 you may want to upgrade your motherboard, CPU and RAM with a G3258 Intel CPU, and a inexpensive 1150 socket motherboard... DDR3 RAM should be extra.
