I am currently considering upgrading.

Currently I have a:
Pentium 4 - 1.6 (the lesser of the two versions)
DDR - 1 GB
40 GB Hard Drive
ATI 9600 PRO

I am considering an upgrade and was wondering what to go with. (New processor etc)

The thing is I use it for multitasking. I highly use photoshop, indesign, microsoft office, making dvd's of home movies, sometimes PSP programs.

So I do some encoding and inverting.

This processor is budget mindset $350 or less.

I plan on getting a new motherboard.

If it means performance

The only dual in my pricepoint is the Athlon 64 X2 3800+

Is this overclockable?

Not that I should really care. Will I notice that big of difference?

all amd's are overclockable on the right mobo. I think the 3800+ x2 would be a great choice for you with probably a good quality nforce 4 board.

Yes, the 3800+ would be perfect for you. You should be able to have design, encoding, and office programs all running at the same time with no setbacks. Might I also suggest a bigger hard drive? 😀
