I have Dell XPS 15 L502X having i7 2630QM. I am thinking to upgrade by HDD to SSD. This thread says that the machine is SATA III equipped and I can push in almost any SATA SSD. Possibly I will remove my nonworking DVD Drive with it. What parameters should I look for and compare to find the "fastest" SSD that is compatible for my laptop. Also I will like to know how much performance improvement I am likely to see (in both casual usage or heavy usage). How it compares against normal HDD? Currently I am having ST9500420AS HDD.

Hello... Yes... that correct... Right Now Samsung models offer some great performance... in your Format... Typically they will be priced $$ higher... B /
Hello... typically the technology of them are really close at performance... and price... the Hardrive is typically the slowest "mechanical" device in your system... They are great!!! it's the future... Just make sure the connection is right... and add the proper shim to it for thickness to your opening and you'll be fine. B )

What do you mean by "technology of them are really close at performance"? All SATA SSDs are of same speed? There is no parameter either in laptop or in SSD which I should look at to come up with maximum transfer rate / throughtput ? This thread says that SATA 3 has 6Gbps bandwidth and 4.8Gbps thoughput. Should I assume that with any compatible SSD I will end up getting 4.8Gbps throughput? If yes will that be significantly fast experience comparing to current HDD?
