Hi guys,

I am after a bit of advise regarding what power supply size my system requires because I am upgrading my graphic card to the 2GB XFX Radeon R7 260X. I would be grateful if someone could assist.

I currently have a 500 watt power supply and my system spec is;

AMD Phenom 920 X4 @ 2.8 GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
ASUS MOTHERBOARD
ATI 4850 512MB GRAPHIC CARD
2*HARD DRIVES (NON-SSD)
1*OPTICAL DRIVE
AND THE USUAL COUPLE OF FANS + LIGHT BAR AT THE BOTTOM

I appreciate my whole system would be a bottleneck for the card but I plan to upgrade the whole system in the near future.

I believe the 500 watt supply would be ok if I upgrade to the 2GB XFX Radeon R7 260X, but I just wanted reassurance from more tech savy people like yourselves.

Regards, Tom

Yup, that psu is adequate. On the link you gave me it says that it has 31A on the 12v rail. The 260x only needs 19A.
I personally would recommend seasonic or Corsair psu's (I have never heard of Xilence so do not know what to think of them)
but from the link it doesn't look like a bad psu.

Try
-Seasonic
-Corsair
-Silverstone
-Thermaltake.

It will most likely work just that Xilsence is not reputable.
A 500 watt psu would be fine, but with psu's you have to consider 2 things.

The wattage
and the Amps on the 12v rail.
A 260x needs at least 19amps on the 12v rail, as long as the psu supports over 19amps then you should be fine.

What model are you thinking of?

sorry, I had the pc built my a neighbour (i'm away from home currently)

But the power supply is in fact 600w, model; KILENCE : XP600

link to model; http://www.quietpc.com/x-red-psus

Is this power supply suitable?

thanks, Tom

thankyou for your response,

My current setup is 5 years old with that spec listed, the only fault i've had was my previous 4870 1gb malfunctioned and for a short period was using the 4850 512 mb. The system has been faultless (albeit a few noisy fans) and have had it checked out to ensure the system is currently stable and everything was ok.

I will use a more reputable psu in the near future with my next build such as a corsair.

thanks, tom

-Good luck

The 260x is not a bad card :)
