What processor to choose?

Hello,
i have a hp pavillion a6650f and i have 8 gb ddr2 ram and upgraded my video card to nvidia gtx 560 i also added a 600w power supply. i would like to upgrade my processor to something more powerful then the 2.2ghz thats in it from factory. i was wondering what would be a good processor to add and if i would have to buy a new motherboard to go with it. the factory motherboard is a m2n68-la.

you need to find out what the mobo can accept. However the 520GT is not a good card, its very very low end for gaming, if thats your purpose.

my purpose is gaming and i found that out recently. I am willing to upgrade it as well and i was looking into the gtx 560 for the video card. As far as the mobo goes i am trying to find reliable sources as to what it can handel and i am having a hard time.

Phenom with Quad Core (Agena) technology (AM2+) up to 9600 (up to 95 watt)
Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology X2 up to 5600+ (up to 89 watt)
Athlon 64 less than 4000+
Sempron less than 3800+

these are the processors that the hp site says it can support but i dont know much about them and i am assuming that they are not gaming ones

no such thing as a gaming processor.

phenom would be best bet, but they are previous to the previous generation.

What is your budget?
