Try using a different DNS server on your router, if that's configurable. If not, you can manually assign a DNS server on your PC. This really shouldn't do anything to help you because once the computer uses the dns to get the IP address, it really shouldn't matter. But it's worth a shot since it only takes a few minutes and it's free. You can use google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Did they give you a different Router as well?

If it's only at Hop1, then it's most likely the copper line to the cabinet is flaky.

The only option I think you have is to go with Virgin Media since they use coax instead. But that's more money which is why I only suggest it as a last resort. 😪

so i contacted BT and they told me that they found a fault on line , and they sending the engineer to fix it tomorrow . Man i hope he is gonna fix it , im so sick of having problems with internet for so looong. Not only at Hop1 . I have packet loss at Hop 1 , 2 , 3 . Yes i got new router , with all the cables

so all day they said that they were working in the exchange, and have it fixed, but nothing is fixed, still packet loss at HOP 1 , 2 and 3. And my router keeps losing connection , ALOT, sometimes every 10 sec i lose connection then its goes on again, then off again , and on again. They told me that there is no issues OUTSIDE my property 100%, so they booked engineer for monday to have a look inside . Like what is going on ? With TalkTalk i only had packet loss at HOP 1 . Now its at HOP 1,2 and 3 ..... Tried connecting with filter (ADSL) doesnt even connect to internet using filter. SO PISSED

You can test the house wires pretty easy. There should be a place you can plug a phone line in where the wires come into the house. Take the router and hook it up there and see if it is stable. If it is then you need to see what is wrong with the wires between that location and where you normally have the router. If it is bad at that location then even though it is in your house the phone company should fix this. Could be a wire is loose or maybe some water got in someplace. Do not mess with the telco box though all you can really do is plug stuff into the phone outlet on the box.

The technician coming to your house would be better equipped to diagnose the problem at this point. Without looking at it myself, we really can't do much.
i just dont get it whats going on ? Why TalkTalk was better than BT ? With TalkTalk i had packet loss at HOP 1 . Now with BT i have Packet loss at HOP 1, 2, and 3 . And the router keeps disconnecting , its just loses internet for like 2-3 sec, then its working again and then 10-15 seconds later loses internet again and its on again, i dont get it

You have to be careful about how you read these. Loss that only occurs in the middle but not to the end node many times means the intermediate router is responding to ping/trace at lower priority that passing traffic. Many times it has limits on how much cpu it can use for the purpose to avoid denial of service attacks

For example hop 7 shows 100% packet loss. Obviously that is not true since you can get to the end node.

Now random loss may not show all the way to the end all the time. You must run this mulitple times or run other tools.

I would try to disable IPv6 in your pc nic. This could be the difference maybe the other ISP did not support IPv6 and this one does. IPv6 many times has worse pathing, not sure why they have said ipv6 is the future for the last 20 yrs.

Will try tomorrow , so i downloaded pingplotter to my mobile phone, and basicly from Hop1 packet loss dissapeard , that means that my PC somehow has probles or what? As i mentioned i had no issues at all at my sisters using my pc setup.. thats very weird to me , what can cause this ?

Now im on my PC, turned on PingPlotter, and HOP 1 packet loss droping the last 20 minutes im watching it , it droped from 50 to 0 . Now i get no packet loss at all at HOP 1 . Just at hop 3 . What is going on and why is just dissapeard?

If the on-site engineer ran all their tests, there's really nothing else you can do. Perhaps their service is just oversold given the lockdowns.

Last things to try are DISABLE IPV6 as said before and try using wifi with a USB adapter.

If those fail, then you have no choice but to get Virgin Media.

hello, so i had like 6 engineers since friday , 0 erros in my house , 0 errors to cabinet . I have read that HOP 3 is LOCAL HEAD END . What is local head end ? I mean i get packet loss at hop 3 now only . Can you explain me what is local head end , and why i can get packet loss at hop 3 ? what can cause this ? So i can expain them better. I told them , that the problem is with local head end . Can someone explain me exactly, whats can causse packet loss at HOP 3 ? Cables or what ?

Something is broken in their equipment. Upstream from you, completely outside you control.
This is 100% their problem to fix.

The Head End is the local server facility after the Green Telco Neighborhood cabinet. The fiber line runs from the cabinet to the local head end, then another fiber might or might not go to another regional headend server before it connects to the main internet.

Are you still getting real world lag in game? Or using the internet in general? Does it happen mostly during waking hours with the lockdowns?

If it truly is a head end and the engineers can't see any problems. Then it's because the fiber line is oversold during a pandemic with everyone stuck at home, doing zoom meetings and streaming movies. Your only option is to go to Virgin Media.

my problem is still the same as it was, gmaes are unplayable as im getting over 50% packet loss at HOP 3 . Cant play at all , and it doesnt matter when i play its night or morning monday or sunday , allways same, never changes, im pretty sure that is not due to oversold or lockdown. By the way about ( VIRGIN MEDIA) Thats what i was thinking to do, but i have neighbour that has VirginMedia, and he told me to dont be silly and dont go with VirginMedia, he loses connection every day , and he is not only one who told me that, have a friend aswell he was supposed to go live last monday, services still not working .
