I am getting an i3 6100 cpu with the MSI h110m pro-vd motherboard but was thinking on getting a ddr4 (2x4) 2400 mHz ram. However on the Intel website it says Memory Types DDR4-1866/2133, so what would happen if I stuck the 2400 mHz ram in?

If you just stick them in your CPU will default to the 2133mhz speed in all likely hood. No it would not get hotter (well sorta of...read on for more) or be overworked either. I would encourage you to set it manually in bio for 2 reasons though. One the voltages for default set-ups are higher and not as efficient so you burn more power. Second reason is the CL timings are much looser. By setting them manually your system will be faster and more responsive. It honestly is very easy to do. Just write down the CL timings on the ram and voltage. Go into Bios and set them accordingly. Also set the Ram speed to proper DDR4 @2400 speeds. Even if you get 2133mhz ram i would still manually set your CL timings and Voltage for the reasons I mentioned.
If you go with ddr4 2400 you basically are overclocking the memory controller and most 6000 series intel CPUs can handle said memory OC. Though You may have to set the speeds and timings manually in bios to get the rated ddr4 2400 speeds. as for what make and model ram...go with the lowest CL rating you can get for ddr4 2400.
