Hello other forumers (is that even a word 😛)
I am planning to build my own costum PC. I want to use it to play minecraft., mainly modded, recording and live streaming. Editing is also a need thing (not to super professional though). Right now after some research I came to this computer. I might want to change the core to an AMD though. Because minecraft uses (since 1.8) more cores. My choice would be the fx 8350. Any ideas where to change?

Wait... How in the world could you double your cores 😛 Didn't you buy the fx-8350 (already octa core)? The reason I think I'm going to choose an Intel is for more reasons, first of all hyper threading. Which means the core's threads become more, this core will stay longer up to date because of this. The good thing about Xeon is that its an i7 for the price of an i5! Another question, what videocard do you use and do you play minecraft on highest settings? :)

Out of date? I don't understand that. I'm able to run all of the newest games at 90-120 FPS on ultra, and CPUs play a big part in most of them.

Yes yes yes, all of that is true! But if you would read a little more on the internet you should be able to see that AMD's single core performance is not the best, Xeon's single core performance is a lot better. Please try specificating what games you mean too! 😛

Minecraft, Skyrim :) and I've never had a single-core amd lol I don't know why you'd want one XD

Single core AMD doesn't exist as you mentioned, but let me explain to you:a processor has got 2 or more cores, some software or games are build to use only one of the cores you have, others such ad BF4 use more cores at once, minecraft is a game that only uses one. The advantage for AMD is that it can have more cores for a good price. Xeon is able to create more "cores", viritual ones, which is more than enough, it's single core speed is also fabulous, understand now how it works 😛

I see you might be moving this thing around. Do you plan to use LAN all the time, or would you want to use wifi (some systems support both). If so, you might want to throw about 20-25 euros at a decent wifi card.

Great you ask! But I forgot to mention that I changed a lot of things in the computer! I will not be bringing this thing around, I'll always have LAN. Any more stuff to make better (making changes to excel sheet in this moment)

Oh, I see you are going bayless. Won't make it easy to install Windows (if that's the OS you are using; you did consider that, right?), but the compact design sounds perfect for recording Minecraft. Be sure that you have a usb dvd drive, though.

2 questions, why would I use DVD and why should it be more difficult installing windows on an Samsung SSD? Its both just selecting the drive in the option menu when installing windows, right? 😵

Um...about that. You can't install windows from an external dvd drive. You'll have to use a flash drive (much easier if there is a download of the installer). Or you could borrow an internal dvd drive and install windows with the case open.

Also, you should probably get a 500GB or 1TB HDD. If you wait for a sale (often via newegg newsletter), you should be able to get a TB for less than 60 euros (I'm converting from U.S. dollars, then rounding up). Recording with common settings may eat up 1GB or more per hour, which will quickly eat up whatever SSD space is left after normal files.

Yes, I was actually going to install it from flash drive! As I mentioned I am going to record, yet my SSD will last some months with its 240gb, when I think I'll need more I'd surely upgrade to an HDD for saving stuff, they cost around €50 in the Netherlands without sale! So, what do you think about the PSU and the GPU, will those work fine? And the motherboard will work fine to, right? Intel Xeon as I already explained to VH9898 is more then enough for recording and gaming because of it ht, if I'm not mistaken

Any good quality 750w pay would be fine. Btw mate if you have a bit more cash try to grab a 390x since it's comparable to the GTX 980.

Hope this helped!

Hi again, I am not sure though Xeon e3 1231 v3 is more expensive than the 1230 v3.

Settle with e3 1230v3 (only 100mhz lower) and go for a r9 390x

Cheers!

Hi are you doing mate...

What makes you think that "you DON'T need a R9 390X". Well It performs better that the r9 390 but there's no magical improvement about 6-10fps. Check this,

Overclocking is very good on this. Anyway Go with the one you think better :)

As long as you are fine with the components you have chosen, you should be good to go. You invested the most in the processor and graphics, which are the first most important in your case. Next up were the memory and ssd, which are next in line for performance neccessity. The remaining components are on par to hold up the rest, and you stayed within your planned budget. You actually did better than I did with my gaming rig: I only planned for $1000, but unintentionally suckered my parents into buying what I needed beyond that.

Thank you for an answer Jerimon! 😀 I have actually planned quite hard to virtually build this build, my dad thinks I shouldn't spend to much on it, that's why the price is so limited... Yet all I need is in there and even more! Thanks everyone for answering to my thread, I'm still open for changes as I'm in Italy right now on vacation and I only go home after 3 weeks!

I must say, as an experienced Minecrafter having played vanilla, and modded, minecraft for over 7 years, I have tried the whole recording and streaming route. Perhaps my internet wasn't the greatest at the time, but even on Fibre Optic, and the system I was running it on, it was still lagging like no one's beeswax.
I was running an AMD Black-FX 8-Core 4.0GHz processor, 12GB of RAM (3x 4GB), 3,072MB HIS 7900 Graphics Card, and my OS off a Solid State HDD. Even THEN I was still getting lag on my minecraft games. All of that cost me approximately £1000 (that's about $1500 US), case and whatnot included. Watercooling was involved for the CPU as well. It was a busy PC I had. Still caused lag 🙁

I'm sure I was probably going wrong SOMEWHERE with it, but I went through as many options as possible to make sure it worked.
All I can really say for sure is that with Minecraft, Java, Windows, and all the hardware options available to you these days, overcompensation can be a good thing. It can open you up to a lot of flexibility for advancing hardware and software, and although some people say it's not worth the money, if you put your heart and soul into the rig, and any activities you wish to commit to it, then I say go all out :)

in fact, the next rig I'm hoping to build, if I get into it that is, will be a dual-CPU X-99 motherboard gaming PC with a couple of X-Fire options going on :) Gotta do a lot of research into it, and it'll cost me both arms, both legs, my prostate and probably a few nosebleeds from angry Football fans to make it work :) but it'll be worth it... especially to see my wife building it 😉

Nice! Making a X99 build... I'd love it, yet my budget is already round the max, I don't see how you lagged with all your specs though?... Question, what is up with the recording program of AMD, or does fraps work better?

Yeah, the budget is something you'd have to REALLY dedicate your pockets to for an X-99 build. That's why I'm going to see how life goes for me before dedicating towards it... Although I'd love to just to have it and go "hellz yeah, be jelly bro!!!" 😛

I don't know how I lagged out with all my specs either, I think it was probably just the Java memory allocation system, or possibly a synchronization issue. It could have been anything though. I think it may also have been something to do with the mods that were loaded with the instances of Minecraft.

Also, try and veer away from FRAPS. I've got it, and it works to a degree, but it causes some SERIOUS issues with my recording. Massive desynchronisation between audio and video, especially when you're recording over long periods of time... It's depressing 🙁
I use another recording system called OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). Can be used for streaming, and can allow you to set cam-in-cam style recordings, good for reaction shots and whatnot :)
