I just got a new cpu (fx 8370) and was wondering whats the best overclock I can get on it. see system specs below
I know the cpu is older and not the best but ive heard that overclocking it makes it more worth while.

specs:
CPU: amd FX 8370 black
motherboard: msi 970 gaming
cooler: coolermaster hyper 212 evo
ram: 16gb of ddr3 at 1600mhz
GPU: EVGA 1060 ssc 6gb
case: rosewill tyrfing
power supply: coolermaster 600w elite v3

thanks for your time!

Solution
There is no set number for what OC your can achieve, it varies for every single processor made.
Your motherboard has a passable power phase at 6+2 with decent VRM heatsinks. The cooler on the other hand may struggle at anything more than a slight OC.

You can give it a try following typical procedures of going +100MHz at a time, but the FX series has notoriously low IPC, so a small increase in clock speed really means nothing.

Thanks I'll try some stuff out I was trying to see people with similar specs had clocked to so I could aim for that number I know the difference between each cpu makes an impact but it would still be a target

I had my 8350 up to 4.8 with the 212 cooler. This was several years ago so I dont remember any specific settings. I did also have a nicer board, but I dont think 4.6-4.8 is out of the question for you. It was warm, almost borderline, but it worked. Try and google search your specific board and cpu combo. More than likely a guide out there for you.

Amd Overdrive. It'll tell you where your temps lay, not a specific number but a relative number compared to the limit. Closer to 0 you get, the hotter the cpu is running. I'd be paying serious attention to that number once you exceed @ 4.3GHz because as was said earlier, cpus are all different, and how yours responds or demands voltages will be different to others. I don't see too many issues at @ 4.5-4.6GHz, that's usually attainable with that cpu and cooler, but beyond that is going to be your choice as to where you are comfortable with the thermal margin.
